Our Best Friends

Our dogs are our best friends because they love us without question, they want only the best for us, and they are loyal like no other animal. For those of us who love dogs there is almost nothing we wouldn’t do for them. Although there are some people that should never own a dog.

Know your limits

Just like becoming a parent there are certain things you should take into consideration before becoming a pet owner. Do you have the patience to teach your dog without losing your temper and lashing out at them? Do you have the ability to provide everything your dog is going to need to maintain a happy healthy life? Do you have a life that will be supportive of your dog? Owning a dog is a choice that you need to really think about. If you had to answer no to any of these questions then you probably should not get a dog.

Looking out for your best interest

I know a lot of people that complain about their dog barking. I actually used to be one of them. I couldn’t stand the constant barking at every little thing. I didn’t know how to train my dog to stop so it was one of those things that I just dealt with. Then one day I was at work on a graveyard shift and my wife called me and told me that someone tried to get in the house. She said that Mischief our four legged son went absolutely nuts and was barking and growling and positioned himself between herself and the door that the person was trying to get in. Thankfully the barking scared the person off and the incident was over quickly but from that point I never told him to stop barking again.

Unconditional Love

When you get a pet you need to think about the fact that this is a living thing that deserves respect, kindness, and unconditional love. I know that when you see a puppy and it bats its adorable eyes and whimpers at you that it is hard to resist the urge of taking it home and giving it whatever it wants, without thinking. I get it, really. I believe however that you have to be strong and think about those three questions as well as many, many more. Do you have it in you to provide the kind of love this life needs? It doesn’t only need love when you have the time, when it does what you tell it too, or when it protects your home from burglars. This amazing animal needs you to think of it at all times and make sure that it is provided for. When you go out, take it with you. If you can’t, don’t be gone too long. When you’re not there, make sure it has something to do like run around a yard. No one likes to be trapped and bored so give it toys to play with. When you come home and it chewed your stuff, learn something and baby proof your home and then buy it more toys to chew on. Don’t take your anger out on it though because it was your fault that it chewed your stuff. If you left me locked up with nothing to do I would probably chew on stuff too. Basically just think about what they want and try to provide for them as though they were a child. You will both be better off.

Be Thoughtful

When you are thinking about getting a pet remember to think about the things that pet might need. Food, a warm place to sleep, something to keep it from getting too bored, water, and most importantly remember that it needs you.
